Miesha Tate travels to Brazil to reignite her passion for MMA
Former Strikeforce Women's Bantamweight champion Miesha Tate has had quite a year.
After losing her belt to Ronda Rousey in March and defeating Julie Kedzie in August, the fighter who changed her nickname from "Takedown" to "Cupcake" some time away from the sport.
Although she was able to rebound from losing the title and submit Kedzie in her last fight, Tate had lost her passion for fighting after the bout with Rousey. In an interview with MMAJunkie.com, Tate said she had even contemplated retirment.
"But I had to tell myself that really I still have a lot of love for MMA and I don't want to walk away from it."
In her match against Kedzie, Tate said she felt her performance was flat. She added that she did not deserve a rematch with Rousey at the time.
The former champion is currently heading to Rio De Janeiro, Brazil to work on technique and fundamentals as well as hopefully rediscover her passion for the sport and plans on making a return to action in August 2013.
With a record of 13-3 and three championships under her belt, Tate has fought some the best fighters in women's MMA and accomplished more than most fighters her age.
At 26-years-old, she still has a long way to go in her career, including avenging losses to Rousey, HOOKnSHOOT champion Kaitlin Young and former Strikeforce champion Sarah Kaufman.
In addition to her old rivals, Tate could also face one of fighters Strikeforce has signed in the last three months.
A match against undefeated fighters like Sara McMann or Cat Zingano, or a powerhouse such as Liz Carmouche, could give Tate the momentum and motivation to step up to Rousey and demand another shot at the championship.
